Safety, Health, & Environmental Professional 

Scope of Work

We are hiring a Safety, Health, and Environmental Professional to assist with management of SH&E programs to foster safe and healthy workplaces, minimize environmental impact, and promote sustainability.

Job Description

 

Ensure the following safety compliance activities are conducted according to site procedures and regulatory requirements: accident and incident investigations with follow-up Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) Plans, risk assessments, safety self-assessments, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and compliance training.

 

Conduct new hire SHE orientation and laboratory safety training including biosafety, chemical safety, and hazardous waste management.

 

Establish core California and federal OSHA safety compliance programs including, but not limited to: Injury and illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), fire prevention program, and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) among others.

 

Establish and maintain chemical safety programs such as Hazard Communication (HazCom) program, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Hazardous Material Business Plan (HMBP), Waste Management Plan, and Chemical Inventory.

 

Manage hazardous waste and biohazardous waste program as per RCRA, California DTSC and Medical Waste Management Act including but not limited to inspection of the hazardous and biohazardous waste storage areas to ensure all waste containers are properly maintained, segregated, and labeled.

 

Establish Contractor Safety Program to oversee compliance with work performed on-site by external service providers involved in laboratory services and Manufacturing Operations.

 

Facilitate the inspection and auditing of laboratory activities and facilities and recommend appropriate safety procedures in accordance with established best practices and regulatory compliance.

 

Establish KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and other leading metrics which assess site performance and are consistent with industry best-in-class performance.

 

Assist Site Safety lead with monthly Safety Committee meetings to provide update on Safety performance and upcoming safety related projects as per site priorities to the stakeholders.

 

Maintain awareness of changes to regulations and ensure site changes are made to maintain compliance including Cal/OSHA, OSHA, EPA, Local County, DOT and other governing bodies

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. Professional certification (CSP, CIH, or CHMM) desired.

Experience 

Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in an industrial setting (biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, etc. preferred)
